A New Story (hopefully)

Last night, I wrote the entire storyline for my next book. I usually don’t work like this – normally, I let it grow inside my mind, letting the story itself slowly unfurl and lead the way. However, this time I sat down and refused to stop writing until I had the whole outline. It is a mere 2000 words, which I will hopefully develop to be 28,500 before my birthday next year. I know that seems like a huge amount of time for a novella, and AI could probably write it in minutes, but I prefer to fight with myself about which word is more fitting and what emotions are on display. It has to feel right. Logically, I only know this when it’s finished, but in this case, I’m referring to individual paragraphs rather than the whole story.

It is again a novella because I feel comfortable with this length. Also, the amount of work compared to the reward makes the whole process less painful.

Sometimes, I watch my kindle KDP account and notice a reader slowly working their way through all of the Creation series and The Sixteen Bobs of Doctor Ivanov. It’s a great feeling, even if it comes with a minor reality check later. Happy readers are often silent readers, while those less pleased are quick to tell the world. This leaves me feeling frustrated, but usually only for a day or two. I know I am not alone here and that it can be tough on all writers, investing so much time in their work, only to be greeted with silence. But hey, I don’t write to be shouted at – LOL.

Writing this next novella will allow me to dream, imagine the reviews, and, most of all, thoroughly enjoy the time of creation. Last night, for example, was amazing. When I finished the storyline, I cried – LOL. And if that isn’t personal entertainment, I don’t know what is. Sadly, after completion, I was physically sick for the rest of the night. I can only hope it was something I ate and not the mental exhaustion from writing. I know writing is very draining for me, but it has never been this hard before.

Anyway, I have another goal and another story to complete – with or without appreciation.

Thanks for reading.

I have been lots of things to many people. Some nice, and some... well not so nice. Now I am older and less worried about what people think of me. My past is colorful, sad and happy. Filled with lots of unique people. I have been blessed in this way. I have walked with people in all walks of life, and I have loved each journey, and each and everyone of them. Now, I write. It is a new road. It is not a highway or a crossroad. It leads me somewhere though, and as I have always spent my life travelling, this suits me fine.
